Job Description:

WUOT Public Radio at the University of Tennessee seeks a dynamic, experienced fundraising professional who has an understanding of and passion for public media. The Director of Donor Relations identifies, establishes and maintains a variety of relationships with internal and external constituencies and provides leadership, guidance, direction and day-to-day management of all fundraising activities. This position directs a comprehensive fundraising and outreach program, including annual giving activities, cultivation of major donors and increasing the station’s endowment via planned gifts.

The Director of Donor Relations works with UT Advancement Services as needed to assure consistency in record-keeping and reporting, and has access to the UTFI ANDI system. The position assists the Director in setting annual fundraising goals and develops strategies to meet them.

This position is responsible for external communications regarding station membership, including solicitation and thank-you letters, a monthly e-newsletter, e-blasts, social media, and updates membership and volunteer-related pages on the station’s website. The Director of Donor Relations works with WUOT’s 91.9 Inc. advisory board on fundraising and community outreach activities designed to increase the station’s visibility and reputation within the community. The position is responsible for developing collaborations and partnerships with other community organizations.

The Director of Donor Relations is a member of the senior staff and works collaboratively with the Director and other department heads to assure a collegial and inclusive work environment. This position is responsible for establishing and/or updating and implementing station fundraising and outreach policies, procedures and activities and supervises the membership assistant, assuring careful record-keeping and timely follow up with donors.


Qualifications: Bachelor's with 4 years of professional fundraising experience or H.S. Diploma or equivalent with 8-10 years of professional fundraising experience, public broadcasting fundraising experience preferred. Significant experience in database management, Allegiance software preferred.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational and communication skills with the ability to fully utilize available technologies. Must have the ability to gather, analyze and use data; compile information; prepare and present proposals and reports. Ability to accommodate flexibility in work hours and settings to meet station needs. Must be comfortable in front of the microphone, as well as behind-the-scenes. Must have the ability to work with and engage a diverse constituency.
