Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park assists the National Park Service in its mission to preserve and protect Great Smoky Mountains National Park by raising funds and public awareness and providing volunteers for needed projects. In its 29-year history, Friends of the Smokies has raised more than $70 million for Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
One of the major sources of fundraising revenue for Friends of the Smokies is special events. Throughout the calendar year, our organization implements a variety of events including a black-tie gala, a road race in the park, guided hikes, and cocktail receptions.
Position: Friends of the Smokies seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with event planning efforts. This individual will report to the Senior Special Projects Director and Special Projects Director. The team manages four of the organizations largest fundraisers each year.
Assist in all aspects of event planning, including, but not limited to:
Maintaining auction item database, including photographing and packaging items
Updating guest registration, seating information and related data entry
Donor acknowledgement and guest follow-up
Management of social media event pages
Soliciting and securing silent auction items from new and past donors
Management of volunteer committee meeting attendance and meeting minutes
Self-motivated, flexible, organized, and detail-oriented
Ability to multitask and prioritize while under deadline pressure
Willing to work some nights and weekends
Able to lift 50 pounds
Previous related experience in fundraising or event planning is a plus
Must be computer literate, including Internet research experience, and proficient in Microsoft Office
Professional demeanor and outstanding phone etiquette
Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
Enthusiasm for Friends of the Smokies mission
